Practice Groups
Pre-Competition
Includes swimmers who can complete a length of both freestyle and backstroke and who are age 5 and above. The group works primarily on learning butterfly and breaststroke, cleaning up major stroke problems on freestyle and backstroke, kicking, starts and turns. The main goals are to provide a bridge from swim lessons to swim team, and prepare these young swimmers for eventual competition. There are three practices offered per week. This group does not participate in swim competitions.
Non-Competitive Group
Includes swimmers who may not be ready for "prime time", those just looking to stay in shape for the high school season, or athletes looking for a cross training experience. This group is open to all ages and ability (excluding our very young swimmers that would fall into the pre-competition group). The group works primarily on cleaning up major stroke problems on the four competitive strokes, kicking, starts and turns. There are four practices offered per week. This group does not participate in swim competitions.
White
Includes swimmers who can complete a length of both freestyle and backstroke and who are age 5 and above. The group works primarily on learning butterfly and breaststroke, cleaning up major stroke problems on freestyle and backstroke, kicking, starts and turns. There are three practices per week.
Red
Includes swimmers who are legal in all four competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle). The group works primarily on building solid stroke mechanics, kicking, starts, turns and familiarizing swimmers with the rules of year-round competitive swimming. This group is offered five practices per week.
Blue
Includes swimmers who are 14 years or younger that still need a lot of stroke instruction. This group emphasizes stroke mechanics, kicking mechanics, starts and turns. Swimmers will be introduced to dryland training, race strategy and the use of paddles. This group also includes swimmers who are 9 and 10 years old that are more advanced then their Red Group peers. This group is offered six practices per week.
Senior II
A group to encompass swimmers who are not ready to make a commitment to year round swimming along with new senior group swimmers out of the Blue Group and any High School age swimmers with limited year-round training experience new to FUAC. This should afford new senior group swimmers a smoother adjustment to the additional time commitment from the age group program or for those swimmers with limited year-round training experience. Swimmers are ones who must develop basic mechanics and practice habits. This group will also be for those swimmers who have chosen to make the High School Swim Season their main focal point. Stroke correction and the basics ofpractice etiquette will be emphasized. Swimmers in Senior II will normally have a number of other activities that hold equal or more importance in their life. Swimmers who wish to transition out of Senior II will need to maintain the minimum attendance requirement of Senior I.
Senior I
This is the first FUAC group that has an attendance requirement. There is a minimum attendance of 66% based on 6 practices a week. Swimming should represent one of a very few other outside interests and should hold a level of importance in their life. An understanding of, and commitment to, stroke and practice skills is a must. Swimmers should possess a positive team attitude toward training and competing. These are "A to AA "+ level swimmers and will be expected to participate in Senior Champs and Age Group Champs. Swimmers who wish to transition out of Senior I will need to maintain the minimum attendance requirement of the Senior Elite Group.
Senior Elite
This group is composed of FUAC elite swimmers. Swimmers should possess 15-16 "AAA" times. Minimum attendance of 85%, based on 6 swim practices per week. There are four additional practices above the 6. Swimming should be these swimmers main outside interest.
