Nardone Shines at Lynchburg Firecracker Invitational

Stephanie Nardone registered an incredible five first place finishes in the 8 and under age group at the Lynchburg Firecracker Invitational this past weekend. Her swims were split over two days, and she started the meet right with a superb performance in the 50 meter free. That swim set the tone for the rest of the meet, where she followed up with wins in the 50 meter breast, 50 meter back, 50 meter fly and 100 meter free events. According to Coach Balhoff, Head Age Group Coach,

"This meet really showcased her versatility. We have emphasized technique work in her training on all four strokes, and it paid off this weekend. She is definitely a rising star in Virginia Swimming, and a natural competitor."

Other notable swims came from George Brumbaugh who finished second in the 100 meter freestyle, and had a pair of third place finishes in the 50 meter breast and 100 meter back. Katie Wilson and Chris Covington also had break out swims in the 14 and under 100 meter freestyle events, dropping more then 5 seconds each from previous best times.

FUAC Comes Up Gold at GMU

Out of hundreds of swimmers FUAC registered three first place finishes (Caron, Covington and Gencavage), two second place finishes (Caron and Brumbaugh), two fourth place finishes (Neelley and Gencavage), and three sixth place finishes (Phillips and Brumbaugh). In addition to these top six finishers FUAC had another 11 top 12 finishes.

On Saturday, August 25th, FUAC will hold open tryouts from 9:00 - 11:00am. Following tryouts there will be a parents meeting in the aquatic center classroom (adjacent to the pool) at 11:00am. Team tryouts are open to the public, for boys and girls age 5 and older. The purpose of tryouts is to evaluate new swimmers to ensure they meet the minimum ability requirements for team participation, and also ensure each new participant is placed into the proper training group based on his/her development level.

The parents meeting is open to current and new parents for both the swim team and learn-to-swim program. The meeting will cover important information on both programs.
